Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria PMAN, has issued a directive mandating hotel owners, event planners, and other stakeholders in Abuja’s entertainment industry to obtain official permits before engaging live music bands.
The directive, announced by the FCT chapter during a news conference in Abuja, warns that defaulters risk sanctions as the association intensifies efforts to regulate the sector.
Enforcing Professionalism
Acting Governor of PMAN FCT, Michael Kaycee, said the move is aimed at enforcing professionalism, safeguarding musicians’ welfare, and restoring order in the industry.
He stressed that only certified musicians should be engaged for performances, warning against exploitation, underpayment, and disregard for established standards.
“You are required to obey industrial standards, engage certified musicians, and fulfill your obligations,” he said.

Kaycee further disclosed that a task force has been deployed to ensure compliance, signaling the start of stricter enforcement across the capital.
Mandatory Clearance for Event Organisers
Under the new directive, all show promoters and event planners must secure clearance from PMAN before hosting live band performances in Abuja.
The association maintains that the policy will promote accountability and ensure that industry players adhere to professional guidelines.
Digital Shift Reshaping Entertainment
Beyond regulation, Kaycee highlighted changing audience habits, noting a decline in traditional television viewership due to the rise of digital platforms.
“Today, virtually everyone carries a television in their hands. A young person in a remote area can gain global recognition through digital influence,” he said.
He emphasised that digital platforms now play a central role in content distribution and artist visibility.
Call for Government Intervention
Kaycee also appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to address challenges affecting the association and support the growth of the music industry in Abuja.

The directive signals a renewed push by PMAN to assert regulatory control over live music engagements in Abuja, as stakeholders adjust to tighter compliance measures in one of Nigeria’s most vibrant entertainment hubs.
