Emergency officials investigate the scene after an Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport.
At least five people have been killed after an Amazon cargo plane overshot a runway at Miami International Airport in the United States and crashed into vehicles.
The Prime Air Boeing 767 caught fire shortly after landing at about 1:58pm local time on Sunday after a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah said three people were taken to trauma centres in critical condition, while two others were treated at a local hospital.
He said the aircraft struck several vehicles, trapping some victims inside.
Emergency crews rescued people from the vehicles and the aircraft as firefighters battled the blaze.
Fire officials said about 60 emergency vehicles and nearly 200 firefighters responded to the crash.
They also used specialised hazardous-materials teams to control a fuel leak and secure the aircraft’s engine.
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the crash, while the Federal Aviation Administration will also examine the incident.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel expressed condolences to the families of those who died and said the company would cooperate with the investigation.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised emergency responders for their quick response.
The airport temporarily closed its runways and taxiways following the crash, causing delays and cancellations.
Officials have yet to announce what caused the aircraft to leave the runway.
