NELFUND extends the student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session to allow more eligible students complete their applications.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) says tertiary institution students are not required to take student loans, urging them to apply only if they need financial assistance.
The fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.l
NELFUND said the scheme is designed to remove financial barriers to higher education and ensure eligible students are not denied access to education because of financial difficulties.
It stressed that students who can afford their educational expenses are under no obligation to apply, describing the loans as a support mechanism rather than a compulsory requirement.
The fund added that although the loans are interest-free, beneficiaries are required to repay them in line with the Student Loans Act.
It advised prospective applicants to understand the terms and conditions before accessing the facility.
