A United Kingdom coroner has ruled that three British-Nigerian sisters who drowned off Brighton beach in May took their own lives.
Senior Coroner Penelope Schofield delivered the finding at an inquest at Woodvale Coroner’s Court in Brighton, according to a report by the BBC.
The sisters, Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, drowned on May 13, after entering the sea under adverse conditions.
Schofield said the women could not swim and encountered difficult sea conditions after entering the water.
The sisters had lived together in Greenford, London, before travelling to Brighton by taxi on May 12.
They arrived at 10:21 p.m. local time and were last seen alive at 2:42 a.m. the following day.
Before the trip, the women had visited an area of Birmingham near where their mother drowned in 2010.
Their father, Joseph Jacobsen, followed the inquest proceedings through a video link on Thursday.
The coroner’s findings bring the inquest into the deaths of the three sisters to a conclusion, nearly five months after the incident.
