Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes wins the Premier League Player of the Season award after a standout campaign.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the Premier League Player of the Season award after delivering one of the league’s most productive attacking campaigns.
The Portuguese midfielder matched the Premier League record for most assists in a single season with 20 assists, equalling marks previously set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Fernandes also scored eight league goals to help Manchester United finish third and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The 31-year-old became the first Manchester United player to win the award since Nemanja Vidic claimed the honour during the 2010–11 season.
Fernandes beat several top contenders to the award, including David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Igor Thiago and Morgan Gibbs-White.
Fernandes had earlier strengthened his case for the award after winning the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year prize.
Meanwhile, Nico O’Reilly won the Premier League Young Player of the Season award following an impressive campaign with Manchester City.
O’Reilly established himself as a regular at left-back and midfield, scoring five goals and providing three assists during the season.
The 21-year-old also scored twice in Manchester City’s League Cup final victory over Arsenal in March and started in the club’s FA Cup final win against Chelsea.
Other nominees for the Young Player award included Rayan Cherki, Mateus Fernandes, Lewis Hall, Michael Kayode, Kobbie Mainoo, Alex Scott and Eli Junior Kroupi.
