President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed support for the City Boy Movement, urging its members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election to secure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Akpabio gave the charge on Wednesday while receiving a delegation of the City Boy Movement during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
He commended the group’s commitment and patriotism, describing the movement as a growing political force capable of strengthening support for President Tinubu across the country.
“The City Boy Movement is like a wind blowing across the nation. You may not see it, but you can feel it. “Every political party in Nigeria is already feeling the impact of the City Boy Movement,” Akpabio said.
He said the movement would help ensure that President Tinubu had polling agents in every polling unit during the next election, adding that such a structure could help safeguard votes.
“In the last election, if your movement had existed, many of our votes that were not counted in many polling units would have been counted,” he said.
President of the Senate urged members to remain focused on mobilising voters and educating the electorate, while dismissing possible criticisms from opposition parties.
“When the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged. Ignore all those things and remain focused,” he said.
Akpabio also encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace constructive political participation, describing them as critical to the country’s future, while urging them to shun cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
Quoting a philosopher, he warned young people against wasting their potential through poor choices and encouraged them to remain committed to national development.
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the movement and lawmakers.
He said the organisation was seeking continued guidance and support as it expanded its programmes nationwide, promoted civic engagement among young Nigerians and contributed to national development.
