Abuja court adjourns indefinitely the terrorism-financing case against Bauchi Finance Commissioner Yakubu Adamu pending Chief Judge’s decision.
The Federal Government has arraigned suspects linked to the deadly Yelwata community attack in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, as part of efforts to secure accountability for the violence that claimed several lives and displaced hundreds.
The suspects were brought before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), leading the prosecution.
According to court proceedings the nine suspects are facing a 57-count charge, which is currently being read to them with the aid of an interpreter.
The arraignment follows assurances from the Office of the Attorney General that justice would be pursued rigorously in the case, sending what officials described as a clear warning to individuals threatening national security under any guise.
“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the protection of the lives and properties of all as enshrined in the constitution,” said Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Adviser to the AGF and Minister of Justice.
He added that the arraignment was the outcome of a “painstaking investigation and collaboration by government agencies.”
The Yelwata attack, which occurred in June 2025, triggered widespread outrage after gunmen invaded the community, killing scores of residents and forcing hundreds to flee their homes.
The incident led to protests and renewed calls for improved security across Benue State.
Security agencies had earlier confirmed the arrest of several suspects in connection with the killings, culminating in Monday’s court appearance. The case is expected to continue as the charges are formally taken and the trial process unfolds.
