Kwankwaso Governor Yusuf_APC flag combo
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has not received approval from NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party said.
After the speculation that Governor Yusuf might defect from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) intensified that the reports claimed Kwankwaso had reversed his stance and endorsed the move.
Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, described the reports as “false, misleading, and entirely without factual basis.” He reaffirmed that the former governor and presidential candidate remains committed to the NNPP’s vision and principles.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was elected on the NNPP platform and remains a party member with an obligation to uphold the mandate given to him by the people,” Hassan said.

NNPP spokesperson Kwankwaso also condemned the reports, calling them “a blatant falsehood” and accusing defectors of twisting Kwankwaso’s words to mislead the public.
Johnson added: “Individuals who wish to leave the party should do so without claiming Kwankwaso’s support. Those who betray the party will be rejected by Nigerians in the 2027 elections.”
As of this report, Governor Yusuf has not publicly addressed the defection rumours.
