President Bola Tinubu announces the resignation of IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of Tunji Disu as acting police chief.
President Bola Tinubu says he prayed for wisdom and resilience to continue serving Nigerians during his visit to the Holy Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The President spoke with journalists on Monday after observing prayers at the Ka’aba, where he also prayed for Nigeria’s diversity to translate into national prosperity.
Tinubu expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to undertake the spiritual exercise and for the good health to complete it.
“I feel fulfilled and grateful to Almighty Allah for giving us the opportunity and the health. The day went very well,” he said.
He said he prayed for Nigeria to overcome its challenges and turn its religious and cultural diversity into a source of prosperity.
“The prayer is for Allah to convert our diversity. Nigeria is full of diversity. It is made up of all the faiths. May Allah convert all the diversity to prosperity for the country. That is my prayer,” he said.
The President recalled undertaking a similar spiritual exercise before the 2023 presidential election, when he prayed for a successful Umrah and promised to return to express his gratitude.
“Prior to the 2023 election, I did the same thing. I asked Allah to bless my Umrah then. He did, and I promised that I would come back to thank him, Almighty Allah,” he said.
Tinubu described his election as an act of divine favour, saying those entrusted with power must exercise it responsibly.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s development, saying he remained determined to pursue prosperity with the support of Nigerians.
On the economy, the President said Nigeria was emerging from its difficulties, describing the foundation laid by his administration as solid and its reforms as encouraging.
“The foundation is solid. The economy has come out of the dark tunnel. It is inspiring. We need to build the future for our youths,” he said.
He called for sustained investment in young people and urged Nigerians to put God first, follow their consciences and work towards national development.
Tinubu also thanked the Saudi authorities for granting him access to the Ka’aba, describing the experience as historic.
