Veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
Hassan died on Sunday, with his daughter, Kira Taiwo, confirming the death during an emotional Tiktok Live session.
A family friend also confirmed the development in a telephone conversation with Channels Television.
The actor’s daughters, Kira and Haleemah, had earlier revealed that doctors diagnosed their father with advanced cancer about three weeks ago.
They had appealed to Nigerians and medical experts for assistance in exploring treatment options after conventional treatment became difficult because of the severity of his condition.
Kira, who was visibly distressed and in tears, announced her father’s death while appealing to her sister and other family members to help her return home before his burial.
Hassan’s colleague, actor Saidi Balogun, also confirmed the death in a social media post, describing it as painful and praying for the late actor’s eternal rest.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in Yoruba-language Nollywood, with a career spanning more than four decades.
He built a reputation for his powerful screen presence and portrayal of culturally rooted characters, while also making contributions to the industry as an actor, producer, filmmaker and screenwriter.
His death has triggered an outpouring of grief and tributes from colleagues, fans and other members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
