President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Obio Akpa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Akpabio also thanked Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for releasing a campus of the Akwa Ibom State University to facilitate the take-off of the new federal institution.
He spoke at the funeral service of a former Majority Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, the late Hon. Imo Akpan Ibokette, in Abak Local Government Area of the state.
Akpabio said he looked forward to the admission of the university’s first batch of students, describing the institution as an important development for the senatorial district.
He commended Governor Eno for making facilities available to enable the university begin academic activities this year.
The Senate President also paid tribute to the late Ibokette, describing him as a patriot, selfless leader, loving father and hardworking personality.
He said Ibokette was the first person to call and congratulate him after the passage of the bill establishing the university.
Akpabio described the deceased as a close family friend whose relationship with him remained strong despite political differences.
The funeral service took place at Abak International Nursery/Primary School and was conducted by The Apostolic Church Nigeria.
