Plateau United to play remaining home matches at neutral venues following NPFL directive over security concerns.
The Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL, has approved the relocation of all remaining home fixtures of Plateau United for the rest of the season, citing growing security concerns in Plateau State.
The decision comes as the league enters a decisive stage, where results will determine title contenders and relegation outcomes.
Safety Takes Priority in Season Run-In
NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the move was necessary to protect players, match officials, and travelling teams.
He emphasised that the league could not overlook the prevailing security challenges, particularly as the season approaches its final stretch.
“The board had to act as we approach the final stretch of the season. While every match is important, we are equally concerned about the safety of teams,” he said.
Elegbeleye noted, that matches must be played in secure and conducive environments that allow players to perform optimally, while expressing hope for a return to normalcy in Plateau State.
Uncertainty Over New Home Venue
Although an alternative venue is yet to be officially confirmed, the directive means Plateau United will play their remaining “home” fixtures away from their traditional base until further notice.
Survival Battle Intensifies
The development comes at a critical time for Plateau United, who currently sit ninth on the league table but remain within reach of the relegation zone.
