President Bola Tinubu presents Professor Joash Amupitan to the Council of State as the new INEC Chairman
The National Council of State has unanimously approved the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The announcement was made in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, following the Council’s meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu presented Professor Amupitan’s name to the Council, noting that he becomes the first person from Kogi State to head the electoral body.

The appointment follows the completion of a ten-year tenure by former INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, in October twenty-twenty-five.
