
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announces October 1 as public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on what he described as a “historic milestone,” urging citizens to remain committed to the values of patriotism, unity, and resilience that have sustained the country since independence in 1960.
He also called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is focused on “national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity.”
According to the minister, with collective effort and faith in the country’s leadership, Nigeria will continue to record progress. “Together, we can advance in peace, progress, and development,” Tunji-Ojo said.
