NSCDC operatives on high alert in Edo State following the ambush in Okpella that claimed eight officers and left one expatriate kidnapped
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has launched an urgent tactical response following the killing of eight of its personnel and the abduction of a Chinese expatriate in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area, Edo State.
According to the Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Audi has deployed special tactical squads to track down the attackers, rescue the kidnapped expatriate, and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The operatives were ambushed on Friday, September 5, 2025, while providing security at the BUA Cement Company. Eyewitnesses said the officers engaged the gunmen in a three-hour gunfight. While eight NSCDC personnel tragically lost their lives, four expatriates working at the quarry were rescued unharmed.

Prof. Audi described the attack as a “painful loss” and commended the bravery of the fallen officers. A full-scale intelligence operation is now underway under Commandant CC Dandaura Appollos, head of the Special Intelligence Squad. Units involved include the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Special Protection Units.
“The deployed teams have been given an express order to effect possible arrest, rescue the kidnapped expatriate, and bring the perpetrators to book,” Babawale said, appealing to the public for any information that could assist the investigation.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and vowed to ensure justice for the fallen officers.
