President Bola Tinubu has renamed the University of Maiduguri in Borno State after former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made on Thursday, during an expanded Federal Executive Council meeting held in Buhari’s honour at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Tinubu, while addressing the gathering, said the decision was a mark of national gratitude for Buhari’s decades of public service, noting his deep ties to the North-East region and his enduring influence on Nigeria’s democratic and military history.
Further details on the formalisation of the name change and implementation by the Ministry of Education are expected in the coming days.
