Tragedy has struck in Kano State where three men have died in separate incidents involving a pit latrine and a dry well.
In Bazabe Quarters, Albasu Local Government Area, residents were thrown into mourning after two friends lost their lives in a pit latrine accident.
Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, told reporters that the Takai Fire Station received a distress call after 40-year-old Usman Muhammad fell into a latrine while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone.
His friend, Ibrahim Inuwa, entered the pit in an attempt to rescue him but also became unconscious.
Both men were pulled out by rescue officials but were confirmed dead shortly after.
In a separate incident in Kawon Alhaji Sani Layin Mai, Nasarawa Local Government Area, 33-year-old Muhammad Sagir died after falling into a dry well.
Rescue officers from the Fire Service headquarters retrieved his body, which was later handed over to the community ward head, Alhaji Hamisu.
The Fire Service has urged members of the public to prioritise safety and report emergencies promptly using its 24-hour hotline.
