The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it is taking legal action to reclaim what it calls its “stolen mandate” in Delta State following a mass defection to the All Progressives Congress.
The directive was issued after an emergency meeting of the PDP National Working Committee in Abuja.
On Monday, Delta State Governor, his entire cabinet, and former Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa dumped the PDP for the APC—a move the party described as a betrayal.
Acting PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said the party’s National Legal Adviser has been mandated to initiate legal processes to challenge the defection.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s strength and vowed the party would remain resilient ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP has also appointed Mr Emmanuel Ogidi to lead a South-South Zonal Caretaker Executive to oversee party affairs in Delta State, pending the formation of a new caretaker committee.
