Hon Obi Aguocha has decried the exclusion of the South-East zone from the recently-inaugurated Presidential Committee on Population and Housing Census.
Aguocha, who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja.
He stressed that the committee’s composition fails to reflect the federal character principle.“It is disturbing that no member of the committee is from the South-East,” he said.
The lawmaker warned that any census conducted without full regional representation would lack credibility.
“There’s no way the outcome of the proposed population census will be seen as fair or acceptable if the South-East is sidelined,” he added.
Aguocha, who chairs the House Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of House Standing and Ad-hoc Committees, urged the presidency to urgently review the committee’s membership.
He emphasised that fair representation is key to building national trust and unity.
