Nigeria Police Force says a viral social media video has helped track a murder suspect to Ghana, where he was arrested and later repatriated to Nigeria.
The suspect, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, was wanted over the abduction and murder of an FRSC officer and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a statement by its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on Monday to mark the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation.
According to the Force, investigators used information from the viral video to trace Fejemirokum’s movements to Ghana, where the Ghana Police Service arrested him.
The development, the police said, demonstrates how international cooperation and intelligence sharing can help law enforcement agencies track fugitives who cross national borders.
The Force also disclosed the arrest in Lagos of Mark Sunny Okoh, a Brazilian national wanted in connection with cocaine trafficking.
Okoh, who allegedly fled Brazil after jumping bail, was arrested in Okota, Lagos, following international police coordination. Extradition proceedings to Brazil have since commenced.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the Nigeria Police Force would continue to strengthen cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law enforcement agencies.
Disu said timely intelligence sharing, coordinated investigations and cross-border operational support were essential to preventing criminals from exploiting jurisdictional boundaries to evade justice.
The IGP also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and stronger international partnerships to combat transnational crime.
