The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 18 chairmanship seats and the 192 councillorship positions contested in Saturday’s local government elections in Edo State.
Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, announced the results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Benin City.
He said the electoral process, which covered accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results, complied with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law, the 2022 Electoral Law and the amended 2026 Electoral Guidelines.
Aifuobhokhan acknowledged that the exercise recorded minor operational challenges in some locations but said they did not substantially affect the conduct or outcome of the polls.
According to him, APC secured victory in all 18 local government chairmanship elections and all 192 councillorship seats across the state.
He commended voters for participating peacefully and urged candidates dissatisfied with the outcome to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels.
The EDSIEC chairman also announced that certificates of return would be presented to the successful candidates on Monday.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving future elections through periodic reviews and sustained engagement with stakeholders.
