The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), in Osun State, hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, saying operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) from Abuja apprehended Adeyemi at his hideout.
“The Intelligence Response Team from Abuja arrested him here in Osun,” Ojelabi said, adding that the suspect would likely be transferred to Abuja.
The arrest followed an order by Justice Mohammed Umar after Adeyemi failed to appear in court for arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The court granted the prosecution’s application for a bench warrant and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, for arraignment.
Police accused Adeyemi of forging official government documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter allegedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to present the council as a legitimate federal agency.
Investigators also alleged that he falsely held himself out as the council’s Director-General and operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.
The arrest comes barely a day after Adeyemi insisted during a television interview that he was not evading security agencies, claiming he feared for his life and alleging previous attempts to kill him.
He also repeated claims that he paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to secure the disputed appointment and called for an independent investigation.
If convicted, Adeyemi faces up to 21 years’ imprisonment on the forgery charges, while the impersonation charge carries a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment or a fine.
