Tobi Amusan and other Nigerian athletes prepare for the Commonwealth Games during the AFN training camp in Abuja.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has invited 29 athletes to a national training camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The camp, which opens on June 25, will serve as the final phase of preparation for Team Nigeria ahead of the competition, with the federation targeting strong performances and increased medal prospects.
World record holder Tobi Amusan, long jumper Ese Brume, shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, high jumper Temitope Adeshina and thrower Oyesade Olatoye headline the list of invited athletes.
The squad also includes leading sprinters Favour Ashe, Udodi Onwuzuruike, Alaba Akintola and Kayinsola Ajayi, alongside several emerging athletes expected to strengthen Nigeria’s medal chances.
According to the AFN, selections were based mainly on performances at the recent national trials in Lagos, while some athletes who missed the event because of visa challenges were included based on their international achievements.

The federation expects the Abuja camp to improve athletes’ fitness, strengthen relay teams and enhance coordination ahead of the Games, where Nigeria will compete in 18 athletics events, including the men’s and women’s 4×100 metres relays and the mixed 4×400 metres relay.
With a blend of experienced stars and rising talents, the AFN hopes the training camp will provide the platform for Team Nigeria to improve its performance and challenge for medals at the Commonwealth Games.
