Nigeria’s examination body, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has warned that registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will close on February 26, with no extension.
JAMB said candidates have 17 days left to complete the process and urged them to register early to avoid missing out.
In a bulletin published on Monday, the Board expressed concern over low turnout at many accredited registration centres across the country, despite the exercise being underway.
The body warned that the common practice of waiting until the final days and later calling for an extension will not be accepted this year.

JAMB also accused examination cheats and individuals posing as tutorial centre operators of misleading candidates to delay registration, a move it said is often aimed at forcing deadline extensions and encouraging malpractice.
The Board said it is aware of these tactics and has planned accordingly, stressing that the registration timeline will remain unchanged.
Registration for the 2026 UTME began on January 26 and was scheduled to run for five weeks.
JAMB disclosed that about one million candidates have already shown interest in the examination, while many others have obtained their ePINs and are expected to complete registration soon.
The Board explained that extending the deadline would disrupt its tightly coordinated calendar with other national examination bodies.
Candidates were advised to register promptly, avoid last-minute rushes, and ignore claims suggesting the deadline will be extended.
