Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, has died, her management confirmed on Thursday.
Director Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, announced her passing in a statement on Instagram, saying she died overnight after a “long and courageous battle with illness.”
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She received immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across the world during her illness,” the statement read.
Teemony expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her, while urging the public to stop sending donations, as financial assistance is no longer required.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss,” he added.
A video statement from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, confirmed the news. He thanked supporters, the president, and members of the Nollywood industry for their encouragement and urged the public to refrain from further contributions.

Ajara’s death comes about a week after Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, appealed for urgent financial support as her health worsened. At the time, Teemony said her condition had become “critical despite all the efforts so far” and appealed for donations to continue her treatment.
Earlier reports indicated that the actress, who was reportedly pregnant, had been battling a liver-related illness and was receiving oxygen support in hospital. Colleagues including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke had rallied fans and industry members to assist her financially as concern for her health grew.
Aunty Ajara was widely loved in the Nigerian film industry, and her death has sparked an outpouring of grief among fans and colleagues alike.
