Firefighters battle an early morning blaze at Singa Market in Kano.
An early morning fire on Monday destroyed parts of Singa Market, one of Kano’s busiest commercial centres, causing losses to traders.
The Kano State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 3:16am and immediately deployed firefighters to the scene.
Spokesperson of the service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed that the fire affected sections of the market, adding that firefighters worked for several hours to prevent it from spreading further.
“As of about 10am, some pockets of the market were still burning, and our personnel were on ground to bring the situation under control,” he said.
