The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has pushed back the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, extending the window to February 27, 2026, in a move aimed at widening access for eligible students nationwide.
The extension was announced in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, confirming that the earlier January 31, 2026 deadline has been revised to allow applicants more time to complete and submit their forms.
According to the Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the decision was taken to prevent otherwise qualified students from being shut out of the process due to time limitations.
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has announced an extension of the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026,” the statement said.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, said the adjustment underscores the Fund’s focus on fairness and inclusion in access to education financing.
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr said.
NELFUND encouraged students who are yet to apply, as well as those with incomplete applications, to use the extended period to finalise their submissions and ensure all required details are provided on or before the new deadline.
The Fund added that applicants should monitor its official communication channels for further updates and guidance related to the application process.
