Nigeria's U-18 boys and U-19 girls volleyball teams begin training at the High Performance Centre after the Nigeria Volleyball Federation invited 44 players to camp ahead of the 2026 African Junior Volleyball Championships in Egypt.
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has invited 44 players to the national training camp ahead of the 2026 African Junior Volleyball Championships in Egypt as the country begins preparations to secure qualification for the FIVB World Championships.
Training opens on Friday, July 10, at the High Performance Centre, with 22 players each selected for the U-19 girls and U-18 boys teams.
The players were drawn from clubs competing in the Nigeria Premier Volleyball League, National Division One League and National Division Two League after impressive performances during the first phase of the 2026 National Volleyball League.
The Federation said the invited athletes have demonstrated the quality and potential needed to compete for continental honours and earn qualification for the world championships.
Nigeria’s U-18 boys enter the competition as three-time African champions, having won the continental title consecutively and represented Africa twice at the FIVB U-19 Boys World Championship.
The Federation expressed confidence that the current squad has the talent and determination to sustain that winning tradition.
The U-19 girls are also expected to mount a strong challenge as Nigeria seeks another successful outing at the continental championship in Egypt.
The NVBF commended the commitment of players, coaches, clubs and other stakeholders to the development of volleyball in the country and called on Nigerians to support both teams as they prepare for the tournament.
The African Junior Volleyball Championships will serve as the qualification tournament for the FIVB World Championships.
