Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announces new security measures aimed at disrupting bandit supply chains and criminal networks across Katsina State
The Katsina State Government has introduced stringent security measures aimed at dismantling the logistical and financial networks that sustain banditry and kidnapping across the state.
Governor Dikko Radda announced the directives through a new Executive Order following an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to address the worsening security situation in parts of the state.
At the heart of the new measures is a statewide ban on the sale, purchase, transportation and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans. The government said the restriction seeks to block fuel supplies from reaching armed groups operating from forests and remote hideouts.
The administration also ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) outlets and commercial phone-charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. Authorities said intelligence reports linked some of the facilities to activities that enable criminal networks to communicate, coordinate operations and access financial resources.
In a further move to restrict the mobility of criminal elements, the government imposed a total ban on motorcycle use in Matazu and Musawa LGAs. Security officials have repeatedly identified motorcycles as a key tool used by bandits and kidnappers to launch attacks, move through difficult terrain and evade security forces.
The latest directives signal a shift from reactive security responses to a strategy focused on disrupting the operational infrastructure that supports criminal groups.
Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that restoring peace and stability remains a top priority. He urged residents to comply with the measures and support security agencies with credible intelligence that could aid ongoing operations against criminal elements.
The governor warned that authorities would strictly enforce the Executive Order and prosecute anyone found violating its provisions.
In a statement, Chief Press Secretary Ibrahim Mohammed said the government would continue to deploy all lawful measures necessary to secure communities and create an environment conducive to economic and social development.
Governor Visits Rescued Wife of Late Army General
Meanwhile, Governor Radda paid a solidarity visit to Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina after security forces rescued her from captivity.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA secured her release during a military operation targeting bandit groups in the state.
The governor commended the Nigerian Army for what he described as a swift and professional rescue mission, praising the troops for their courage and dedication to safeguarding communities.
According to Radda, the operation demonstrates the determination of security forces to confront criminal groups and restore confidence among residents affected by insecurity.
“The officers of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have demonstrated the kind of courage, sacrifice and professionalism that gives hope to the people of Katsina,” the governor said.
