Higgins Peters accepts chairmanship role for the 2026 Sports Legendary Awards during a courtesy visit by organisers in Abuja.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of a Communication firm, Higgins Peters, has accepted to serve as Chairman of the 2026 edition of the Sports Legendary Awards (SLA) following a courtesy visit by the organisers of the event.
The delegation, led by the President of Sports Legendary Awards, Ambassador Solomon Omonokhua, formally presented the chairmanship offer to the businessman and philanthropist during the visit.
Peters, who was also nominated for the award of Most Iconic Philanthropist in South-South Nigeria 2026, described the appointment as an opportunity to support sports development and youth empowerment initiatives in the country.
He said sports remain a vital platform for inspiring young people, promoting excellence and strengthening national unity.
Peters also commended the organisers for recognising individuals making meaningful contributions to society and pledged support towards ensuring a successful event.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Solomon Omonokhua described Peters as a fitting choice for the role, citing his contributions to business, philanthropy and community development.
According to him, Peters’ leadership and humanitarian efforts continue to impact lives across Nigeria and would further enhance the credibility and prestige of the awards ceremony.

Omonokhua also praised Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, for his role in advancing sports development in Nigeria through reforms and institutional leadership.
The fourth edition of the Sports Legendary Awards is scheduled to hold at Chelsea Hotel.
Organisers said the event will honour outstanding personalities in sports, business, media and public service for their contributions to national development.
The ceremony is expected to attract sports administrators, athletes, corporate executives and government officials from across the country.
