The Nigeria Super League produced another thrilling round of fixtures at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos, with Central Eagles claiming a dramatic one-run victory over Eastern Elephants in one of the competitions most intense encounters so far.
Central Eagles posted 157 for 4 in 20 overs after being sent in to bat, thanks to a commanding performance from wicketkeeper-batsman, Selim Salau.
Salau anchored the innings with a brilliant 83 runs off 61 balls, smashing four boundaries and seven sixes to stabilise the Eagles after the early dismissal of Happy Bagshaw. Mohammed Moshood and Emmanuel Boniface Oche also contributed vital runs before Useni Prosper added quick late runs with an unbeaten 22 off nine deliveries.
Eastern Elephants responded aggressively in their chase, with Paul Pam and Rahmon Ali providing early momentum. However, disciplined bowling from Ifeanyi Uboh and Azeez Warees kept the match evenly balanced.

The contest went down to the final delivery as Ipoli Victor almost inspired an unlikely comeback for Eastern Elephants with a fighting 52 off 35 balls. Late run-outs by Central Eagles ultimately proved decisive as the Elephants closed on 156 for 9, falling just one run short of victory.
Speaking after the game, Player of the Match Selim Salau said his focus was to build a competitive total for his side under pressure.
“We knew it was going to be a tough contest, so the plan was to stay composed and put runs on the board,” Salau said.
The narrow win highlights the growing competitiveness of the Nigeria Super League and the increasing quality of domestic cricket in the country.
Southern Sharks Bounce Back with Dominant Win Over Western Dolphins
In the second match of the day, Southern Sharks responded strongly to their opening defeat with a commanding 48-run victory over Western Dolphins.
Batting first, Southern Sharks produced one of the highest totals of the competition so far, scoring 176 for 7 in 20 overs through an aggressive batting display.

Isesele Odion Evangel led the charge with a blistering 54 off 31 balls, striking 11 boundaries in a fearless innings. Kenneth Boniface added 47 off 25 balls, while Akhigbe Miracle contributed a valuable 28 runs to strengthen the Sharks’ total.
Despite spirited bowling efforts from Udekwe Chiemelie and Monday Elijah, who claimed two wickets each, Western Dolphins struggled to contain the attacking approach of the Sharks batters.
Chasing 177 for victory, Western Dolphins failed to recover from early setbacks. Captain Vincent Adewoye scored a quick 35 off 21 balls, while Destiny Chilemanya and Udekwe Chiemelie attempted to steady the innings. However, the Southern Sharks bowlers maintained control throughout the chase.
Ayeni Precious and Ismail Abdullahi picked up two wickets apiece, while Akhigbe Miracle completed an impressive all-round performance as Western Dolphins were bowled out for 128 in 16.4 overs.
For his explosive half-century and match-defining impact, Isesele Odion Evangel was named Player of the Match.
