NDC unveils ₦60 million presidential nomination fee and releases timetable for its 2027 primary elections in Abuja.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed ₦60 million as the total cost for aspirants seeking to contest its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the party’s timetable and fee schedule released Tuesday, presidential aspirants will pay ₦20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and ₦40 million for the Nomination Form.
The timetable was jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Zwughele, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Enenweizu.
The party said the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on May 13 and close on May 18, 2026.
Screening and interviews for aspirants are scheduled for May 19 to May 21, while the sale of Nomination Forms will run from May 21 to May 23. Completed forms are expected to be submitted on or before May 25.
The NDC also announced that appeals arising from the screening exercise will be heard between May 25 and 26, while primary elections for various elective offices are slated for May 27 and 28.
The party said its presidential primary election will hold in Abuja on May 29, 2026.
Under the fee structure released by the party, governorship aspirants are expected to pay ₦30 million, Senate aspirants ₦8 million, and House of Representatives aspirants ₦6 million. State House of Assembly aspirants will pay ₦2.5 million.
The party stated that its fees remain among the lowest charged by major political parties in the country.
The NDC also announced concessions for special categories of aspirants.
Female aspirants will pay 50 per cent of the approved fees, while persons living with disabilities will pay 25 per cent across all categories.
According to the party, aspirants are required to sign an undertaking in line with its guidelines and code of conduct.
The party added that State House of Assembly aspirants will be screened in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants will take place at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Governorship primaries, the party said, will be conducted at the local government level.
To strengthen transparency and internal democracy, the NDC said it would adopt an open secret ballot system for all primary elections.
Founded under the guidance of Seriake Dickson, the NDC has recently attracted prominent political figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party recently held its inaugural national convention in Abuja, where it officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
