Armed bandits attack a community in Benue State.
Armed bandits have killed a police officer and several residents in an attack on Abande community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The assailants struck on market day near the Cameroon border, looting stalls and setting the market on fire, according to local sources.
A former councillor, Akerigbe Lawrence, said the attackers stormed the busy market, leaving multiple people dead. He said security personnel later evacuated bodies to Jato-Aka.
Police confirmed the attack but put the death toll at five — one Assistant Superintendent of Police and four community members.

Security agencies have deployed more operatives and armoured vehicles to the area to restore order and track the attackers.
The traditional ruler of Kwande, Ter Kwande, warned that poor road access and distance from military bases are worsening insecurity in the border community.
