Nigeria confirms US air strikes on terrorist targets as part of ongoing security cooperation.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the United States carried out precision air strikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria’s North-West, following an announcement by US President Donald Trump that American forces had launched operations against Islamic State militants.
In a statement released early Friday, the ministry says the strikes were part of ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, aimed at tackling terrorism and violent extremism.
“Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America,” the statement says.
It adds that the collaboration had resulted in precision hits on terrorist targets by air strikes.
The ministry explained that the partnership involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support, conducted in line with international law and with respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

It stresses that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the need to protect civilian lives, preserve national unity, and uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
“Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities, remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” the statement said.
The Federal Government added that it continues to work with international partners to disrupt terrorist networks, cut off their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border threats, and strengthen Nigeria’s own security and intelligence capabilities.
The ministry assured the public that it will continue to engage relevant partners and provide updates through official channels.
