Section 1 of the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway opens temporarily to ease festive-season traffic in Lagos.
FG has temporarily opened a 47-kilometre stretch of the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway to ease traffic during the festive season.
The section, which runs from the Ahmadu Bello Way junction to the Eleko village junction, was opened on Friday following President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, said the partial reopening fulfils a promise made earlier in the year and is expected to improve movement along the congested Lekki–Ajah corridor.

Umahi previously announced during an inspection on 23 November 2025 that the section would be ready for use between 12 and 17 December.
He added that the government plans to complete the whole of Section 1 and half of Section 2 by April 2026 for full commissioning, excluding bridges still under construction.
