Bayo Ojulari has formally assumed office as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), following a brief handover ceremony held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Friday.
Ojulari takes over from Mele Kyari, who led the company through a period of significant transformation and restructuring. His appointment was announced earlier this week by President Bola Tinubu, alongside a reconstitution of the company’s board.
In a statement issued by NNPC Ltd spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, Ojulari expresses appreciation for Kyari’s leadership and contributions to the company’s growth and the broader energy sector. He pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements and drive NNPC Ltd into a new phase of operational excellence and strategic expansion.

“The expectations are high, and the goals are ambitious,” Ojulari said. “However, with the support of our dedicated management team, workforce, and the invaluable counsel of my predecessor, we are confident in our ability to deliver on our mandate.”
In his remarks, Mele Kyari congratulated Ojulari and extended his gratitude to the company’s staff for their support during his tenure. He assured the new leadership of his continued availability, emphasizing that he remains committed to supporting NNPC Ltd’s progress.

“I’m always available to offer support when needed,” Kyari stated, underscoring his readiness to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Ojulari’s appointment signals the Tinubu administration’s intent to sustain momentum in the ongoing reforms within the oil and gas sector, and to reposition NNPC Ltd as a globally competitive, transparent, and efficient national energy company.
