Security concerns rise in Kogi State following coordinated attacks on churches and rural communities.
Bandits have carried out yet another deadly raid in Niger State, abducting 24 residents, including pregnant women, from a rice farm in Palaita community, Erena Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers struck around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday while villagers were harvesting their crops. Despite Palaita being just five kilometres from a military base in Erena, the armed group escaped with the victims before security operatives could respond.
The incident adds to the worsening insecurity across Shiroro, a region repeatedly targeted by armed groups despite ongoing military operations.

Visually Impaired Man Mutilated
Earlier that morning, another group of armed men invaded Kakuru community, also in Erena Ward. They reportedly assaulted a blind resident, severing his right hand after seizing a mobile phone belonging to his neighbour.
Residents said the attackers met the visually impaired man alone at home, as others had gone to their farms. After he explained that the phone belonged to someone else, the assailants amputated his hand in anger. He is currently receiving first aid at a patent medicine store in Kuduru community.
Police Confirm Abductions
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the attacks and said efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims.
Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, stated:
“On November 26, 2025, at about 8 p.m., a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims.”
latest incident
The latest incident comes less than a week after more than 300 students and teachers were kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, also in Niger State, underscoring the escalating security crisis gripping northern Nigeria.
Communities across the region continue to face frequent raids, mass abductions, and violent assaults, despite repeated government assurances of improved security.
