ASUU NEC meets Wednesday to decide on possible strike after renegotiation talks with the Federal Government conclude, as tensions grow across public universities.
The Federal Government, through the Yayale Ahmed Renegotiation Committee, has scheduled meetings on Monday, November 24, and Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in an effort to forestall a potential strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) is expected to convene following these talks to determine whether the union will proceed with industrial action.
A senior NEC member, who requested anonymity, expressed frustration over the timing of the government’s meetings, suggesting they may be a stalling tactic. “They have convened a meeting for Monday and Tuesday. I believe it’s delay tactics. They are trying to delay us from taking action. After their meeting, we will hold a NEC meeting to decide the next line of action,” the source said.
The development comes after ASUU’s ultimatum, issued following the suspension of a two-week warning strike on October 22, expired on Saturday. The union had previously granted the Federal Government a one-month window to address its demands.
With universities across the country anxiously monitoring developments, the outcome of the ongoing negotiations will be pivotal in determining the continuity of academic activities in Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
