The Federal High Court in Abuja will today (Thursday ) deliver judgment in the terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu, with proceedings scheduled to be broadcast live.
The court’s registrar confirmed the arrangement to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday morning, as media crews from major stations—including NTA, Channels Television, AIT, and TVC—set up equipment inside the courtroom ahead of the live transmission.
Justice James Omotosho fixed the judgment date after the defence team was foreclosed, following Kanu’s refusal to open his defence on the grounds that he would not do so under what he described as a repealed law.
Justice Omotosho ruled that Kanu had exhausted the six days allocated for his defence and therefore waived his right to present it.
The judge noted that the court would have considered extending the allotted time if Kanu had agreed to proceed.
According to him, Kanu “having failed to utilise the opportunity given to him to conduct his defence, cannot claim to have been denied the constitutionally guaranteed right to a fair hearing.”
