2025 Beach Volleyball Tour kicks off in Yola as 21 teams battle for national ranking and recognition
The 2025 Beach Volleyball Star/Open Tour has opened in Yola, Adamawa State, marking the latest effort to strengthen Nigeria’s presence in continental beach volleyball.
The competition, now in its third edition, is organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) with support from the Adamawa State Government. Matches are being played at the newly upgraded beach volleyball courts of Adamawa State Polytechnic (SPY).
NVBF President and head of the Africa Beach Volleyball Federation, Engr Musa Nimord, said the tour is aimed at discovering new talents for the national teams and expanding grassroots participation across the country. He was represented at the event by NVBF Zonal Chairman and Chairman of the Beach Volleyball Commission, DCP Stephen Hasso.
Nimord praised the state government for hosting the event and said he was confident the facilities in Yola would give players the right platform to compete.
“So far, we have about 21 teams, male and female competing in both the Star and Open categories,” he said. “We hope the players will make the best use of the world-standard facilities here at SPY, Yola.”
He encouraged participants to play by the rules, noting that Nigeria remains one of Africa’s strongest contenders in the sport.
“Nigeria’s beach volleyball team is the second-best in Africa. We hope to identify new talents here who can help us take the number one position,” he added.
Declaring the tournament open, the Adamawa State Director of Sports congratulated the teams and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sports development. He said the government would continue to invest in infrastructure and programmes that advance youth participation and sporting excellence.
