The All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged victorious in 16 out of the 18 chairmanship seats in the recently concluded local government elections in Ondo State.
The Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Joseph Aeemo, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Akure on Sunday.
While results from the Ondo West Local Government Area have been declared, those from the Owo Local Government Area are still pending due to a rescheduled election.
Twelve political parties participated in the elections held on Saturday, including Action Alliance, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, and the ruling APC.
However, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) opted out, citing concerns over the credibility of the electoral process under ODIEC.
The last local council election in the state was conducted on August 23, 2020, with the elected officials’ tenure ending on August 22, 2023. Since then, the Heads of Local Government Administrations have been managing the 18 council areas.
