The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has confirmed the death of seminarian Emmanuel Alabi, one of the three students abducted by gunmen in July at the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivianokpodi, Edo State.
The confirmation was contained in a statement signed by the Assistant Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Linus Imoedemhe.
According to the statement, the seminarians, Japhet Jesse, Joshua Aleobua, and Emmanuel Alabi, were kidnapped during a violent attack that claimed the life of a civil defence officer.
While the church thanked God for the safe release of Japhet Jesse and Joshua Aleobua, it expressed deep sorrow over the death of Emmanuel Alabi, who reportedly died during the ordeal.
The Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia, expressed profound grief over the loss, calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.
He also urged political leaders not to ignore the worsening insecurity in the country, stressing that the safety and well-being of Nigerians must come before political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The diocese has called on the faithful and all people of goodwill to pray for the repose of the soul of Emmanuel Alabi and for lasting peace and security in the nation.
