The Kano State Executive Council has approved more than N8.2 billion for new projects designed to strengthen education, improve water supply, and enhance energy efficiency across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presided over the council’s 33rd meeting where the approvals were made, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
Over N4.9 billion of the funds will go to education sector projects, including the second phase of the renovation at Government Technical College, Ungogo, payment of debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers, and production of instructional materials through the Kano Printing Press.
The council also approved funds for completing and furnishing the e-library at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, as well as supporting accreditation exercises at Kano State Polytechnic. Office furniture and fittings will also be procured for Northwest University, Kano, to improve administrative and academic efficiency.
“Education remains the cornerstone of our development agenda, and we will continue to invest in facilities that promote quality teaching and learning,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
In addition, N3.3 billion has been allocated for water supply and energy-related projects aimed at providing steady access to clean water in both urban and rural areas.
The funds will cover the construction of a modern water treatment plant in Taliwaiwai, Rano Local Government Area, payment of electricity and fuel bills owed by the State Water Board, and settlement of liabilities to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
According to the statement, the investments are intended to “guarantee steady water supply, improve energy efficiency, and promote better living standards for the people of Kano.”
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to channel resources toward projects that have a direct impact on citizens’ welfare and support sustainable infrastructure across the state.
The new approvals follow an earlier decision in August 2025, when the state government awarded contracts worth over N40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 township roads within the Kano metropolitan area.
