Tinubu urges service chiefs to act decisively against rising armed groups and sustain gains in the fight against insecurity.
President Bola Tinubu has charged Nigeria’s service chiefs to act decisively against emerging armed groups and intensify efforts to end the country’s prolonged insecurity crisis.
Speaking on Thursday, during the decoration of the newly confirmed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu urged the military leadership to demonstrate renewed patriotism and deliver measurable results in safeguarding the nation.
“I charge you, as heads of our nation’s armed forces, to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” he told the officers, in the presence of top government officials and dignitaries.
The president commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and contributions to national security, noting that their efforts had led to the restoration of peace in several previously troubled areas, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the weakening of terrorist networks.
“I thank our Armed Forces for their patriotism, diligence, and dedication to duty. As your Commander-in-Chief, I sincerely appreciate your sacrifices,” Tinubu said.
However, the president cautioned that new security threats are emerging, particularly in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South, and warned that such developments must be swiftly contained.
“Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in some parts of the country. We must not allow these threats to fester,” he warned. “We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equipping and supporting the Armed Forces, stressing that Nigeria cannot afford a repeat of the prolonged insurgency that began in 2009.
“We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” he declared.
