The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has criticised activist and politician Omoyele Sowore over his planned “Release Nnamdi Kanu” protest, describing the move as a desperate attempt to seek attention under the guise of activism.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said Sowore’s plan to lead a protest for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was both “baffling and laughable,” given that the matter is already before a competent court.
“It is both baffling and laughable that Sowore, a man with no cultural or political connection to the Southeast, now parades himself as the rallying point of Ndigbo,” Oladejo stated.
He described the planned protest as a mockery of the Igbo people, adding that Sowore’s involvement amounts to an insult to a people of intellect, courage, and deep history.
“Why is Sowore weeping more than the bereaved? Why is he pontificating loudly on a matter that is already before a court of competent jurisdiction? Is this about justice, or merely another desperate audition for public relevance?” he queried.
Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo criticises activist Omoyele Sowore over his planned “Release Nnamdi Kanu” protest, describing it as attention-seeking and disrespectful to judicial processes.
The party spokesman further accused Sowore of contradicting his own advocacy for democracy and rule of law by seeking to influence an ongoing judicial process through street protests.
“The same man who endlessly chants democracy now undermines it by inciting protests over a case being handled by the judiciary. This exposes his activism as noisy, shallow, and opportunistic,” Oladejo added.
He maintained that the Igbo people are capable of defending their interests without external interference, urging Sowore to stop positioning himself as their spokesperson.
“Ndigbo do not need a political wanderer in borrowed robes to define their struggles. They know their leaders, they understand their challenges, and they can engage the system with wisdom and dignity — not with Sowore’s brand of social media dramatics,” he said.
Oladejo emphasised that the rule of law must take its full course, as it remains the foundation for justice and order — principles he said the APC government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to upholding.
Concluding, the Lagos APC spokesperson said Sowore’s recent actions only reinforce his craving for relevance, urging Nigerians to disregard what he called a “political circus.”
“Sowore should stop playing the town crier of a village that never sent him on any errand,” Oladejo said.
