White House officials accused the Nobel Committee of bias after the 2025 Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, overlooking President Trump.
The White House has sharply criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee for awarding this year’s Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado instead of U.S. President Donald Trump.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said the decision showed that the committee “places politics over peace,” adding that President Trump would continue to pursue peace deals and humanitarian efforts.
President Trump, now in his second term, has long argued that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in resolving global conflicts — claims many observers consider exaggerated.
Ahead of the announcement, Trump pointed to his mediation in the Gaza ceasefire as evidence of his peace efforts, saying he had “saved many lives,” even if recognition never came.
Nobel experts in Oslo, however, said Trump’s “America First” policies run contrary to the principles of the Peace Prize as outlined in Alfred Nobel’s will.
