Members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria stage a peaceful protest at the CAC headquarters in Abuja, accusing the Commission of unlawful deregistration and calling for the restoration of their registration certificate.
Members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) on Thursday staged a peaceful protest at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) headquarters in Abuja, demanding the reversal of the Commission’s decision to withdraw the Council’s registration.

Speaking to journalists, NYCN Secretary General, Barrister Abubakar Suleiman, described the deregistration as unlawful and a direct affront to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We had won at the Federal High Court, which ruled that CAC has no authority to delist the Youth Council. Yet, despite a pending appeal, the Registrar General went ahead to remove our name and set up a committee to manage NYCN affairs,” Suleiman said.
He accused the CAC Registrar General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN), of “acting beyond his powers” and disregarding due process, stressing that the move violated a subsisting court process.
Chanting solidarity songs, the protesters demanded the immediate reinstatement of NYCN’s registration certificate and the removal of Magaji from office. Suleiman said the protest would continue for 30 days and be replicated across CAC offices nationwide until the Council’s demands are met.
He further alleged irregularities within the Commission, including unlawful recruitments and administrative impunity, describing the actions as “a sabotage of President Tinubu’s youth development vision.”
“This is not just about NYCN. It’s about protecting institutions that represent young Nigerians and ensuring government agencies act within the law,” he added.
The protest marks one of the largest youth-led demonstrations in Abuja in recent months, drawing attention to growing tensions between the nation’s regulatory bodies and youth organisations.
