Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen, represented by Hon Joshua Gana, at the launch of the AI-enabled healthcare programme for persons with disabilities.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has assured Nigerians that the constitutional amendment bill currently under review will be passed without delay.
Speaking on Monday at the National Public Hearing on the Review of the 1999 Constitution in Abuja, Abbas said the 10th Assembly is determined to succeed where previous assemblies fell short.
“As Speaker, I pledge that we will take your contributions seriously and consider the bills with diligence, fairness, and urgency,” he stated.
He commended Nigerians for turning out in large numbers to ensure their voices were heard, adding that the process would positively impact all sectors of society.
Abbas also promised transparent engagement with state assemblies to secure concurrence and stressed the importance of working closely with the executive and citizens to ensure a smooth amendment process.
Inclusive Review Process
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who doubles as Chairman of the House Committee on Constitutional Amendment, pledged to make the process all-inclusive, ensuring diverse perspectives are reflected in the final document.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, commended the committee for creating a participatory platform involving citizens, civil society, political parties, professional bodies, and traditional institutions.
Akume reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions through meaningful constitutional reforms.
