Nigeria strengthens global efforts to protect the ozone layer, marking 40 years of the Vienna Convention.
The Federal Ministry of Environment has restated its commitment to work with partners in phasing out ozone-depleting substances from refrigeration, air-conditioning, foam, and aerosol products.
While advancing the adoption of climate-friendly alternatives and energy-efficient technologies.
Minister of Environment, Mallam Balarabe Lawal, made this known in Abuja during the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the 2025 World Ozone Day.

Lawal explained that achieving the ministry’s goals requires deliberate actions such as training technicians, strengthening regulations, facilitating technology transfer with neighbouring countries, and promoting gender inclusivity in environmental policies.
“To attain these goals, the ministry is training technicians, strengthening regulations, and facilitating technology transfer with neighbouring countries as well as promoting gender inclusivity,” Lawal stated.
He urged Nigerians to embrace environmentally sustainable practices to protect the ozone layer and mitigate the impact of climate change.
