Bucknor-Akerele urges Tinubu to shift focus from 2027 ambition to Nigeria’s urgent reforms.
A former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kofo Bucknor-Akerele, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s alleged focus on a 2027 re-election bid, describing it as a misplaced priority at a time when the country faces urgent socio-economic challenges.
Bucknor-Akerele, who served as Tinubu’s deputy between 1999 and 2002, made the statement while speaking on a national television, on Thursday.
The octogenarian, who is also a member of The Patriots, a group led by former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, said the administration should be focused on rebuilding the country’s economy and governance structures for future generations.
She warned that the president’s current approach risks ignoring the voices of elder statesmen and reform advocates working to lay a lasting foundation for national progress.
According to her, Nigeria needs visionary leadership, not political calculations, at this critical juncture. She urged the president’s advisers to prioritise national transformation over political ambition.
